Each week we are going to feature a powerful Herb!
This week we present: Calendula! We love the almost magical properties of this beautiful must-have in any holistic and natural healing cabinet!
The plant’s Latin name, Calendula officinalis, can be translated into “first of the month” or even “little calendar.” This plant is different from its smaller, ornamental relative, the Marigold (known as Tagetes). “Marigold” refers to the Virgin Mary. It is also know as the unfading flower because it never seems to wither. This makes it a perfect ingredient in magical blends designed to keep love alive!
Why did we choose Calendula as our first featured Herb?
Calendula has a powerful healing effect on wounds because of its anti-fungal and astringent properties. It is also used topically to heal burns, sprains, and eczema. Used in a tea, Calendula has helped to treat ulcers and gastritis. Calendula improves blood circulation and helps alleviate skin ulcers, bruises, and reduce scarring. It acts as a natural antibiotic to kill germs and prevent infection. Calendula promotes blood cell growth to help skin regeneration. This is especially helpful in reducing scarring.
We use Calendula in our “Stress & Tension” Foot Soak because of it’s anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and blood circulation powers.
